Amongst a lot of average but refreshing #Crete lager I found this special #FIX Premium Dark Lager. From the makers of #Hellas that's fuelled many a late night for holidaymakers. Stout like but refreshing out the fridge, with depth lacking in much of the other Lagers. No idea if it's a true Lager but that's what it says on the tin. I was hoping to visit the Brinks brewery whilst here as they look to be making some interesting organic beer. Unfortunately time's ran out on me. #beer #Lager #Stout #Brewing #Crete #Greece #JKP

There's a freshwater lake. It has pedalos on it. Lake Kournas is the only freshwater lake in #Crete although some of the freshness is somewhat negated by the amount of duck poo around.. but then it is the duck's home after all. Fabulous setting amongst the mountains. 42deg C made any out of water activity difficult. No idea how people kept pedalling. #Kournas #Crete #Greece #pedalo #JKP

Bunch of sightseers listening to a guide. #Minoan #Palace of #Knossos If honest I'd say that despite the heat it left me a little cold. Seemed over restored, distracting from any of the original features; the best of which are now in Heraklion #Ηράκλειο anyway. If you have limited time try Heraklion Archaeological Museum which is supposed to be great, but that will depend how you best soak up your culture. I just couldn't quite feel the ancientness of it all, but that could just be how it is when trying to imagine a place when you're too hot and amongst too many people, all looking overwhelmed, with bewildered or bored looking kids everywhere. That said you'd be daft not to make the effort if possible, as Heraklion isn't far and having placed your feet in the soil could give fresh context to the wonders in the museum. #archaeology #Tourism #Crete #Greece #Minoan #JKP

Faded postcards and beach balls. #Vamos #Crete #Greece #Tourism Enjoyed 40 minutes just shooting for no particular reason around the little town of Vamos. Locals sat at taverna and just the faintest whiff of ex-pat and faded tourism dreams. A crossing point, too far from the sea to attract crowds, yet still with life. Could have easily spent the evening sat with a beer watching the world go by but had to move on.

Roman stuff, just lying around. Told the kids we were all just popping out for evening ice creams on a beach. Ruined #Aptera was an important city but 'only' goes back to 8th century BC, although name crops up on a #Knossos tablet. Guess they chose the spot because of its fantastic views across Souda Bay to the north and White Mountains south. That and access to nearby ports. Even managed to keep kids interested for a while. #Crete #Greece #archaeology

Press night for The #Skriker A fantastically intense, immersive production from @rxtheater and @MIFestival with awesome performances from the whole cast. The #Skriker, played by Maxine Peake, is a shapeshifter. She can turn from child to old woman, a death portent and move you from sympathy to disgust in a moment. She is a faerie come from the Underworld and this is her story as she weaves and manipulates two girls lives through time and space. Images were taken on full dress rehearsal on Wednesday 1st July and was only the second time they had run in the space.
